Knowing the warning signs is the best way to protect yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-types-of-scams\">Common Types of Scams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Scams may take many forms, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Impersonation Scams<\/strong> \u2013 pretending to be a trusted organization, government agency, credit union or well-known company<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phishing and Smishing Scams<\/strong> \u2013 emails, text messages or phone calls designed to steal personal or financial information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Card Fraud<\/strong> \u2013 unauthorized transactions on debit or credit cards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Online Shopping Scams<\/strong> \u2013 fake websites or ads offering goods at unrealistically low prices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Investment and Loan Scams<\/strong> \u2013 offers promising guaranteed returns or \u201cpre-approved\u201d loans with upfront fees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Romance Scams<\/strong> \u2013 building emotional relationships online to request money or financial help<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tech Support Scams<\/strong> \u2013 claims that your device has a serious problem requiring immediate payment to fix<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Crypto Currency Scams<\/strong> &#8211; requests to transfer money into cryptocurrency or claims of guaranteed crypto returns, which are often linked to fraud and are difficult or impossible to recover<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-warning-signs-of-fraud\">Warning Signs of Fraud<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Be cautious if you encounter any of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Requests for account numbers, passwords, PINs or one-time security codes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgent pressure to act immediately or face consequences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requests for payments via gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers or cash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unexpected messages asking for personal, banking or login details<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offers that seem too good to be true, such as guaranteed winnings or profits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poor spelling or grammar is messages to be from official sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requests to keep the situation secret from friends, family or colleagues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>REMEMBER:<\/strong> St. Paul Federal will never contact you asking for your full password, PIN or one-time security code<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-protect-yourself\">How to Protect Yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can reduce your risk of falling victim to a scam by taking these steps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monitor your accounts regularly and report unfamiliar transactions immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take time to pause and verify before responding to any unexpected request<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Independently contact to organization using official contact details<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never share passwords, PINs or one-time security codes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be cautions when clicking links or downloading attachments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication when available<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep your devices and software up to date with security updates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trust your instincts \u2013 if something feels wrong, it probably is<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-to-do-if-you-suspect-fraud\">What to Do If You Suspect Fraud<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you believe you have encountered a scam or fraud:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop all communications immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not send any money or personal information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report the incident to your financial institution if money is involved<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Warn others so they don\u2019t fall victim to the same scheme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-staying-informed\">Staying Informed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Scammers constantly change their tactics.
