Open House and Shred Day

Open House and Shred Day

Identity thieves are a hot topic in high-tech crime prevention these days, but most identity thieves are still getting the information they need the good old fashioned way—by digging through your trash. St. Paul Federal Credit Union has partnered with Shred-N-Go, Inc.® to safely shred the documents they’re looking for.

Open House and Shred Day

Saturday, September 27th, 2015

9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Identity thieves are the hottest topic in crime prevention these days. Whether it’s Internet security or stolen credit cards, everyone seems to be talking about high tech thieves. But let’s back up for a minute, most identity thieves are still doing it the good old fashioned way—by digging through your trash! St. Paul Federal is here to help stop these creeps.

On Saturday, September 29th,  Shred-N-Go will have a mobile destruction truck at our Conway office for a public shred day. Bring down any confidential documents that you need to dispose of and be sure that the shameless thieves won’t get their scummy hands on them!

Better Business Bureau® Guidelines for Keeping Documents

A good rule of thumb is to keep all tax returns and supporting documentation for seven years. The IRS has three years from your tax-filing date to audit, and has six years to challenge a claim.
Keep credit card statements for seven years if tax related expenses are documented.
Keep paycheck stubs for one year. Be sure to cross reference the paycheck stub to the W-2 form.
Be sure to keep bank statements and cancelled checks for at least one year.
Bills should be kept for one year or until the cancelled check has been returned. Receipts for large ticket items should be kept for insurance purposes.
Home improvement receipts should be kept for six years or permanently.
Items such as birth certificates, social security cards, insurance policies, titles or wills should be kept permanently in a safety deposit box.
